Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Valle de Egues (11-5) won against 8th ranked Santurtzi (6-9) in Olaz 79-75 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Valle de Egues made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Santurtzi turnovers. Santurtzi was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for power forward Javier Lacunza (204-94, college: Florida Atlantic) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 9 rebounds. Argentinian guard Federico Villagra (187-90) contributed with 9 points and 4 steals for the winners. Swingman Xabier Vega (195-93) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and power forward Sergio Iglesias (200-92) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Santurtzi. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Valle de Egues. They maintain fourth place in Group A-A with 11-5 record. Loser Santurtzi keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. Valle de Egues will face higher ranked Pas Pielagos (#3) in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santurtzi will play at home against Miraflores (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
