Regular Season Round 18: Njardvik - Grindavik 94-65
Date: February 7, 2019
Dominos League top team - Njardvik (15-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Grindavik (8-10) 94-65. The game was mostly controlled by Njardvik. Grindavik was better in third quarter 21-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Njardvik dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Grindavik's 22. They outrebounded Grindavik 42-28 including a 36-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Njardvik shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Grindavik's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. DR Congolese-French forward Eric Katenda (206-92, college: N.Texas) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead the effort and international point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94, college: Barry, agency: Inception Sports) supported him with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Njardvik's coach Einar Johannsson felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by the former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-90) did not help to save the game for Grindavik. American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech) added 15 points. Four Njardvik and five Grindavik players scored in double figures. Njardvik maintains first position with 15-3 record. Grindavik at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. They share the position with Haukar and IR. Njardvik will play against league's second-placed Stjarnan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Grindavik will play against KR (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
