Regular Season Round 18: Valur - IR 82-83

A very close game took place in Reykjavik between IR and Valur. Ninth ranked IR (8-10) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Valur (5-13). IR managed to escape with a 1-point win 83-82 on Friday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valur won fourth quarter 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. IR dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 42. The best player for the winners was American guard Kevin Capers (188-93, college: Florida Southern) who scored 26 points and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The former international center Sigurdur Thorsteinsson (204-88) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Ragnar Nathanaelsson (218-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and American point guard Dominique Rambo (183-91, college: SAGU) added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. IR moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Grindavik and Haukar. Loser Valur keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. IR will meet at home higher ranked Tindastoll (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Valur will play against Breidablik (#12) in Kopavogur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
