There was no surprise when 14th ranked Quimper UJAP (6-11) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Nantes (9-8) 87-79 on Friday. Nantes had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Sterling Gibbs (188-93, college: Connecticut, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 20 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Gary Chathuant (195-83) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Nantes players scored in double figures. Nantes' coach Jean-Baptiste Lecrosnier used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Angolan center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-90, college: Hawaii, agency: Duran International) with 26 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and swingman Lucas Dussoulier (203-96) scored 19 points and 4 steals (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Nantes moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Blois. Loser Quimper UJAP dropped to the fifteenth position with 11 games lost. Nantes will meet higher ranked JA Vichy (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Quimper UJAP will play against Paris (#11) and hope to secure a win.
