There was no surprise in Lugo where 9th ranked Carbajosa (7-9) was defeated by seventh ranked Estudiantes L. (10-6) 94-82 on Sunday. Carbajosa was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Gabriel Gomez (195-95) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Senegalese forward Mor Niang (201-99) who added 21 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Swingman Rafael Casanova (195-93, college: Florida Tech) responded with 24 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Chris Kendrix (196-95, college: Minn.St.-Mankato, agency: Duran International) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Five Estudiantes L. and four Carbajosa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Estudiantes L. have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place in Group A-B, which they share with Gijon Basket and Leon. Loser Carbajosa keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Estudiantes L. will face Rosalia (#13) in Santiago de Camp. in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
