Regular Season Round 39: Nishinomiya S. - Gunma 93-83

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Gunma (28-11) in Hyogo on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Nishinomiya S. (19-20) 93-83. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Gunma. Nishinomiya S. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Gunma's 30. Strangely Gunma outrebounded Nishinomiya S. 36-24 including a 14-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for point guard Sotaro Uehara (170-94) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). American guard Draelon Burns (194-85, college: DePaul) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Nishinomiya S.'s coach Miodrag Rajkovic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) answered with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) added 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Gunma. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nishinomiya S. maintains third place with 19-20 record having nine points less than leader Shinshu BW. Gunma at the other side still keeps top position with 11 games lost. They share it with Kumamoto V.. Nishinomiya S. are looking forward to face Orange Vikings (#4) in Matsuyama in the next round. Gunma will play on the road against Aomori Watts and is hoping to win this game.
