There was a minor upset in New York City where their close opponent Hawks (19-39) were defeated by fifth ranked Knicks (11-47) 106-91. Knicks outrebounded Hawks 52-41 including 41 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Knicks brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Hawks were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by guard Dennis Smith-Jr (190-97, college: NC State) who scored that evening 19 points and 7 assists and guard Kadeem Allen (191-93, college: Arizona) supported him with 14 points and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 16 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists by guard Trae Young (188-98, college: Oklahoma) did not help to save the game for Hawks. Center Dewayne Dedmon (213-89, college: USC) added 21 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Knicks maintains fifth position with 11-47 record which they share with defeated Hawks. Hawks at the other side keep the fifth place with 39 games lost.
