Regular Season Round 17: UCD Marian - Maree 84-83

Eighth-ranked Maree (6-9) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked UCD Marian (10-5) in Dublin on Saturday. UCD Marian managed to secure only one-point victory 84-83. However their fans expected easier game. UCD Marian dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Maree's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Polish Mariusz Markowicz (202-86) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Mike Garrow (193-91, college: E.Connecticut) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. UCD Marian's coach Yiannis Liapakis used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American swingman Sean Sellers (198-95, college: Ball St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) produced 31 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Eoin Rockall (185-98) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five UCD Marian and four Maree players scored in double figures. UCD Marian have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Maree at the other side keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with Swords Thunder. UCD Marian are looking forward to face Killorglin (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maree will play against Neptune and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
