Very expected game when 11th ranked Politechnika Gdanska (2-15) was smashed on the road by third ranked Energa Torun (13-4) 109-69 on Saturday. Energa Torun dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Politechnika Gdanska's 44. Energa Torun forced 20 Politechnika Gdanska turnovers and outrebounded them 35-21 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. Lithuanian power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) notched a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and international Angelika Stankiewicz (170-95) supported her with 19 points. Five Energa Torun players scored in double figures. Even 27 points and 5 assists by American forward Tiffany Clarke (183-91, college: Vanderbilt) did not help to save the game for Politechnika Gdanska. Finnish forward Annika Holopainen (185-93, college: ODU) added 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Energa Torun have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Arka Gdynia. Politechnika Gdanska lost twelfth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 15 games lost. They share it with TS Ostrovia. Energa Torun will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Politechnika Gdanska will play against Enea AZS P. (#13) in Poznan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
