Regular Season Round 41: Fukushima - Tokyo Z 71-94
Date: February 17, 2019
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Fukushima (18-23) was crushed at home by fifth ranked Tokyo Z (15-26) 94-71 on Sunday. Tokyo Z shot 60.7 percent from the field. Tokyo Z outrebounded Fukushima 35-20 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Tokyo Z looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Fukushima's players. American center Nigel Spikes (208-89, college: Marshall) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and point guard Teppei Kashiwagura (180-95) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Tokyo Z players scored in double figures. Toshifumi Kawamitsu (188-90) responded with 19 points and guard Dai Suzuki (183-90) scored 8 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tokyo Z maintains fifth place with 15-26 record. Fukushima lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 23 games lost. Tokyo Z will face league's second-placed Shimane Magic at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fukushima will play against the league's leader Gunma and hope to win that game.
