Regular Season Round 18: Fjolnir - FSU 95-82

Very expected game in Reykjavik where 6th ranked FSU (7-11) was defeated by second ranked Fjolnir (13-5) 95-82. The game was mostly controlled by Fjolnir. FSU was better in fourth quarter 25-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded FSU 46-30 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Fjolnir players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by FSU's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. American forward Marques Oliver (201-91, college: Delaware St.) notched a double-double by scoring 31 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks to lead the effort and guard Robert Sigurdsson (187-94) supported him with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists. Oliver is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Even 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by American forward Marvin Smith (198, college: USC Upstate) did not help to save the game for FSU. Swingman Snjolfur Stefansson (192-98) added 18 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Fjolnir maintains second position with 13-5 record having just two points less than leader Thor AK. FSU lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 11 games lost. Fjolnir will play against Sindri (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. FSU will play against Snaefell and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
