The game between closely ranked teams ended with 11th ranked Athinaikos' (2-13) road loss to tenth ranked Sporting (6-9) 56-77 on Sunday. Sporting outrebounded Athinaikos 43-24 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Ariana Moorer (172-91, college: Virginia) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Samantha Mackay (174-91, college: Dayton, agency: Interperformances) with 13 points and 5 assists and power forward Nefeli Stoupa (184-99) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Athinaikos' coach Gavrilos Kalogeropoulos gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sporting moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Proteas. Athinaikos lost their thirteenth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Sporting will face higher ranked Niki Lefkadas (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Athinaikos will play against Esperides (#7) and hope to win that game.
