Regular Season Round 19: Hottur - Vestri 97-86

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Hottur's (12-7) home victory over 5th ranked Vestri (12-7) 97-86 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Hottur. Vestri managed to win second period 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hottur forced 22 Vestri turnovers. Strangely Vestri outrebounded Hottur 41-28 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for Croatian swingman Dino Stipcic (196-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard Charles Clark (188-96, college: Carson-Newman) helped adding 22 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Five Hottur players scored in double figures. Hottur's coach Vidar Hafsteinsson used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Montenegrin forward Nemanja Knezevic (203-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 21 rebounds and 4 blocks (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and Croatian forward Jure Gunjina (203-92, college: Georgia SW) scored 27 points and 8 rebounds. Hottur maintains fourth place with 12-7 record, which they share with defeated Vestri. Hottur will meet league's second-placed Fjolnir in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vestri will play against Hamar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
