Korisliiga top team - Vilpas (26-4) added another victory to their record. This time they beat sixth ranked Kouvot (14-14) in Kouvola 103-99. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kouvot. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kouvot won third quarter 27-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vilpas made 28-of-34 charity shots (82.4 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Kouvot helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for guard Jack Gibbs (183-95, college: Davidson, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 4 assists. Forward Jamie Skeen (203-88, college: VCU) contributed with 24 points for the winners. Brian Asbury (201-86, college: Miami, FL) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and guard David Gonzalvez (193-87, college: Richmond) added 19 points in the effort for Kouvot. Four Vilpas and five Kouvot players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Vilpas have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-4 record. Kouvot at the other side keeps the sixth place with 14 games lost. Vilpas' next round opponent will be KTP-Basket (#4) in Kotka. Kouvot will play on the road against Helsinki Seagulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
