Regular Season Round 38: Toyoda Gosei - Tokyo Big Blue 103-50

Bottom-ranked Tokyo Big Blue is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 32th consecutive match to second ranked Toyoda Gosei (25-7) 103-50 on Saturday evening. Toyoda Gosei dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Big Blue's 36. They outrebounded Tokyo Big Blue 44-33 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyoda Gosei looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Tokyo Big Blue's players. American-Irish Brian Voelkel (196-92, college: Vermont) notched 6 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and American Patrick Simon (203-92, college: Seattle Pacific) supported him with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds by forward Bryan Simpson (197-84) did not help to save the game for Tokyo Big Blue. Guard Kengo Funabashi (189-93) added 6 points and 5 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyoda Gosei have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 25-7 record having four points less than leader Tokyo Excel. Tokyo Big Blue at the other side still closes the standings. Toyoda Gosei will meet Iwate Big Bulls (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
