There was no surprise in Aix-les-Bains where 16th ranked Aix-Maurienne (6-15) was defeated by fifth ranked Saint Chamond (14-7) 76-72 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Tunisian Makram Ben-Romdhane (205-89) who scored 18 points. Jonathan Hoyaux (195-88) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Saint Chamond's coach Alain Thinet used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian-Jamaican point guard Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson (178-91, college: Calgary) who recorded 17 points and 4 assists and Cameroonian forward Benoit Mbala (203-95) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The victory was the third consecutive win for Saint Chamond. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Vichy Clermont. Aix-Maurienne lost their tenth game in a row. They keep the sixteenth position with 15 games lost. Saint Chamond will face Lille Metropole (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aix-Maurienne will play against Quimper UJAP (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
