We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Minsk where sixth ranked Impuls BGUIR (14-9) smashed 5th ranked Rubon (14-9) 104-81 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 104-81. Impuls BGUIR dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Rubon's 52. Impuls BGUIR forced 19 Rubon turnovers and outrebounded them 51-31 including a 37-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Rubon's players. Ukrainian center Maksym Kozlovets (204-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Genadziy Zahar (200-92) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four Impuls BGUIR players scored in double figures. Egro Potupchik (191-94) responded with 27 points and 6 assists and center Pavel Bliznec (210-94) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Impuls BGUIR. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Rubon. Impuls BGUIR will face bottom-ranked Prinemanye (#10) in Grodno in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Rubon will play at home against RCOP Tsmoki (#8) and hope to win that game.
