There was a small surprise in Las Palmas where ninth ranked Gran Canaria (11-10) defeated 6th ranked Real Canoe (12-9) 83-79 on Saturday. Gran Canaria had a 32-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Sparkle Taylor (178-95, college: UTEP) stepped up and scored 26 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Senegalese center Ndeye Fatou (187-94, college: S.Nazarene) chipped in 13 points and 14 rebounds. Five Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Grace Alonso-de-Armino (180-92, college: Freed-Hardeman, agency: ProDep Management) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and Lucia Rodriguez (186-99) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Real Canoe's coach Jose Luis Vicente tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gran Canaria have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place in Group B. Loser Real Canoe dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Gran Canaria will face higher ranked Almeria (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
