Date: March 9, 2019
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when tenth ranked Sporting (7-10) beat 9th ranked Proteas (7-10) in Athens 73-67. Sporting forced 19 Proteas turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Proteas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Ariana Moorer (172-91, college: Virginia) who scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. American-Bahrain power forward Brittany Lewis (188-89, college: Louisiana Tech) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. International point guard Evgenia Kollatou (172-98) produced 22 points and American guard Keani Albanez (178-93, college: Gonzaga) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Proteas' coach Vissarion Konidaris rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sporting moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Panionios and Proteas. Sporting's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Panionios.
