There was no surprise when 5th ranked Fukuoka Rizing (10-34) was defeated at home by second ranked Toshiba Thunders (28-16) 84-76 on Sunday. Toshiba Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was international power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Toshiba Thunders players scored in double figures. American forward Marqus Blakely (201-88, college: Vermont) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import center Dexter Pittman (208-88, college: Texas) added 22 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Fukuoka Rizing's coach Ryuji Kawai tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toshiba Thunders have an impressive six-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Ryukyu GK lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Fukuoka Rizing lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth place with 34 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Yokohama BC (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Fukuoka Rizing will play against Osaka Evessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
