Regular Season Round 19: AEK - Kymis 96-92
Date: March 16, 2019
No shocking result in a game in Athens where third ranked AEK (14-5) defeated 11th ranked Kymis (4-15) 96-92 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-92. AEK forced 21 Kymis turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American Vincent Hunter (203-94, college: UTEP) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Lithuanian forward Jonas Maciulis (198-85) helped adding 14 points and 7 assists. AEK's coach Luca Banchi allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American point guard JeQuan Lewis (185-94, college: VCU) responded with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and power forward Chris Horton (203-94, college: Austin Peay St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for AEK. They maintain third place with 14-5 record having three points less than leader Panathinaikos. Kymis lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with 15 games lost. AEK will meet Ifestos (#7) in the next round. Kymis will play against Promitheas (#4) and hope to secure a win.
