Regular Season Round 19: Cretan Kings - Panionios 65-72

There was no surprise in Rethymno where 14th ranked Cretan Kings (3-16) was defeated by twelfth ranked Panionios (5-14) 72-65 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 14-6 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Panionios dominated on the defensive end, holding Cretan Kings to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American guard Davion Berry (193-91, college: Weber St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points and 7 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!). His fellow American import forward Darnell Harris (203-92, college: Middle Tenn.St.) helped adding 19 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side Ukrainian-American guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) responded with 34 points (!!!) and American forward Aaron Jones (206-93, college: Mississippi) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Cretan Kings' coach Stavros Mikoniatis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panionios moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Lavrio. Cretan Kings lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Panionios will meet at home league's second-placed Olympiacos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cretan Kings will play against Holargos (#8) and hope to secure a win.
