Very expected game in Kotka where 10th ranked Torpan Pojat (5-22) was defeated by second ranked Peli-Karhut (19-8) 79-74 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 25-14 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American-Cameroonian center Brittany Starling (183-94, college: USC Upstate) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Brooke McCarty (163-95, college: Texas) chipped in 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Laura Saarinen (186-92) produced 24 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Ashli Payne (183-95, college: E.Washington, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 16 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second position with 19-8 record behind leader HyPo. Torpan Pojat lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 22 lost games.
