Regular Season Round 25: Carbajosa - Betanzos 93-86

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Betanzos' (8-13) road loss to ninth ranked Carbajosa (10-11) 86-93 on Sunday. Carbajosa dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Betanzos' 32. They outrebounded Betanzos 40-24 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for swingman Rafael Casanova (195-93, college: Florida Tech) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Gabriel Roman (185-97) contributed with 16 points and 4 steals for the winners. Carbajosa's coach Angel Codon used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Thomas Cooper (196-92, college: Calgary) answered with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) added 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Betanzos. Five Carbajosa and four Betanzos players scored in double figures. Carbajosa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place in Group A-B, which they share with PBB. Loser Betanzos dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Carbajosa will face bottom-ranked Un.Oviedo (#10) at home in the next round. Betanzos will play against Rosalia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
