The most exciting game of round 34 in the Korisliiga took place in Joensuu. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Kouvot (16-19) to fifth ranked Joensuun Kataja (19-13) 79-78 on Wednesday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-17. But Kouvot won second period 21-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Vincent Simpson (185-88, college: Hampton, agency: Inception Sports) fired 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Kevin Bracy-Davis (201-95, college: Davis & Elkins) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Joensuun Kataja's coach Juha Sten used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Thomas Gipson (201-93, college: Kansas St.) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and guard David Gonzalvez (193-87, college: Richmond) added 23 points respectively for lost side. Five Joensuun Kataja and four Kouvot players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja moved-up to fourth place. Kouvot at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 19 games lost. Joensuun Kataja is looking forward to face league's second-placed Kauhajoki at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Kouvot will have a break next round.
