There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Spectres (1-1) crushed on the road bottom-ranked Geelong Supercats (0-1) 93-70 on Friday. Spectres looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Geelong Supercats' players. Geelong Supercats were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Dain Swetalla (206-86, college: Augustana, IL) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Simon Conn (206-83, college: Gardner-Webb) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Spectres players scored in double figures. Naturalized British forward Lewis Thomas (203-92, college: W.Oregon) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and American guard Demarcus Gatlin (193, college: SHSU) added 18 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Geelong Supercats. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spectres left bottom position moving up to ninth place in League. Loser Geelong Supercats still closes the standings with one game lost. Spectres will face higher ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (#7) in Ulverstone in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Geelong Supercats will play at home against Knox Raiders (#16) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
