There was no surprise when 11th ranked Mataro Parc (8-17) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Cortegada (12-12) 56-52 on Saturday. Cortegada forced 23 Mataro Parc turnovers and outrebounded them 39-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Mataro Parc was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Sara Gomez (172-86) fired 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Italian-Brazilian Izabella Sangalli (184-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Judy Jones (175-90, college: GCU) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Marta Claret (185-92) added 15 points respectively for lost side. Mataro Parc's coach Jordi Vizcaino let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cortegada maintains eighth place in Group A with 12-12 record. Newly promoted Mataro Parc keeps the eleventh position with 17 games lost. Cortegada will face ADBA (#11) in Aviles in the next round. Mataro Parc will play on the road against the league's leader Real Celta Vigo having rather not much hope for a victory.
