There was no surprise when 10th ranked Gijon (10-19) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Albacete (15-14) 69-62 on Saturday. Albacete made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game, while Gijon only scored three points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was American power forward Marcus Van (201-87, college: Cent Michigan) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Dominican Eddy Polanco (190-94, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Albacete players scored in double figures. Albacete's coach Alfredo Galvez used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Canadian forward Shane Osayande (198-93, college: Saskatchewan, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Serbian center Nemanja Djordjevic (203-95) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Albacete moved-up to fifth place in Silver. Newly promoted Gijon keeps the tenth position with 19 games lost. Albacete will face Tormes (#12) in Salamanca in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gijon will play at home against L'Hospitalet and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
