Regular Season Round 7: Acereras - Barreteras 56-59

Important game to mention about took place in San Luis Potosi. Sixth ranked Barreteras (2-5) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked Acereras (0-7) 59-56 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Puerto Rican forward Anushka Maldonado (185-95, college: UTRGV) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international swingman Alexis Castro (180-86, college: Vermont) accounted for 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Barreteras' coach E. Perez allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international guard Lucia Sanchez (167-93) came up with 20 points and 4 assists and Uruguayan power forward Florencia Sergio (188-96) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Acereras in the defeat. Newly promoted Barreteras maintains sixth place with 2-5 record. Acereras lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Barreteras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Acereras will play again on the road against Barreteras (#6) in Zacatecas and hope to get finally their first victory.
