Regular Season Round 28: Battipaglia - Salerno 50-124

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Battipaglia (0-28) was outplayed at home by third ranked Salerno (22-6) 124-50 on Sunday. Salerno dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Battipaglia's 32 and made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game, while Battipaglia only scored 0 point from the stripe. Salerno forced 24 Battipaglia turnovers and outrebounded them 48-21 including a 35-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Battipaglia's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Massimiliano Sanna (195-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) and forward Lorenzo Tortu (200-92) who added 22 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) during the contest. Five Salerno players scored in double figures. At the losing side Cosimo DiBiase responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds and guard Benjamin Vietri (180-0) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Salerno maintains third position in B with 22-6 record having just three points less than leader Deco Caserta. Loser Battipaglia still closes the standings with 28 games lost. Salerno will face IUL Tiber (#10) in Roma in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Battipaglia will play on the road against Roma Luiss (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
