Regular Season Round 28: Palestrina - Olimpia Matera 86-80

Everything went according to plan in Roma where second ranked Palestrina (23-5) beat one of their biggest challengers Olimpia Matera (19-8) 86-80 on Sunday. Palestrina looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Olimpia Matera was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Argentinian swingman Manuel Carrizo (196-80, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists and center Eugenio Beretta (208-96) who added 18 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Palestrina's coach Francesco Ponticiello used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side point guard Daniele Merletto (175-93) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and power forward Giacomo Sereni (200-84) scored 17 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Palestrina maintains second position in B with 23-5 record having just two points less than leader Deco Caserta which they share with defeated Olimpia Matera. Loser Olimpia Matera dropped to the second place with eight games lost. Palestrina will face Palermo GB (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Olimpia Matera will play against the league's leader Deco (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
