Regular Season Round 25: Beer Sheva - Ashdod 88-97

There was an upset when higher ranked Beer Sheva (13-12) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Maccabi Ashdod (9-16) 97-88 on Sunday. Maccabi Ashdod looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Beer Sheva was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and Kosovan center Lis Shoshi (211-94, college: UALR) chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Kerron Johnson (183-90, college: Belmont) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 assists and the other American import Taylor Braun (201-91, college: NDSU) scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Beer Sheva's coach Rami Hadar let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Maccabi Ashdod maintains tenth place with 9-16 record. Newly promoted Beer Sheva keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will face higher ranked Galil Gilboa (#9) in Rosh Pina in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Beer Sheva will play on the road against Ironi Nahariya (#11) and hope to win that game.
