The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panathinaikos (#1) and AEK (#3). AEK was crushed at home by 32 points 72-104 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of AEK. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to AEK's 42. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was international center Georgios Papagiannis (217-97) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. American DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 18 points. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American Vincent Hunter (203-94, college: UTEP) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and international Dusan Sakota (210-86) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-1 record. AEK at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face Promitheas (#5) in Patras in the next round. AEK's supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Panionios.
