Date: April 12, 2019
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Joensuun Kataja (23-16) beat 10th ranked UU-Korihait (9-30) in Uusikaupunki 98-90 on Friday. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 98-90. Joensuun Kataja made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Joensuun Kataja looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Canadian-Jamaican guard Daniel Mullings (189-91, college: N.Mexico St.) notched 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Cuban-American power forward Adrian Diaz (209-93, college: FIU) supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Diaz is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. Even 29 points by guard Marius Van-Andringa (189-94) did not help to save the game for UU-Korihait. American swingman Chris Jenkins (201-94, college: Detroit Mercy) added 18 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Joensuun Kataja have a solid three-game winning streak. Joensuun Kataja maintains fourth position with 23-16 record. UU-Korihait lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 30 games lost. They share the position with Ura Basket. Joensuun Kataja will meet at home league's second-placed Kauhajoki in the next round and it may be the game of the week. UU-Korihait will play against KTP-Basket (#5) in Kotka and hope to secure a win.
