Regular Season Round 17: Batumi - Kutaisi 97-89

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Kutaisi (14-3) on the court of seventh ranked Batumi on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Batumi 97-89. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Kutaisi. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 37-20 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Batumi looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American players dominated the game. Guard Kasey Shepherd (190-94, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Duran International) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Spencer Collins (196-93, college: Wofford) contributed with 22 points and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Terrence Thompson (201-94, college: Wake Forest) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and guard DeJuan Wright (190-88, college: FIU, agency: Court Side) added 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Kutaisi. Five Kutaisi players scored in double figures. Batumi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Olimpi. Kutaisi at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Batumi is looking forward to face league's second-placed Mgzavrebi in Tbilisi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kutaisi will play at home against Delta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
