Regular Season Round 31: Coruna - Castello 83-84

A very interesting game took place in Coruna. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 13th ranked Leyma Basquet (11-20) to twelfth ranked Castello (13-18) 84-83 in the fight for the twelfth place. Castello forced 20 Leyma Basquet turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Dominican power forward Juan-Jose Garcia (201-89, agency: Duran International) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 9 rebounds. Javier Lucas (207-86) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. American-Cape Verdean point guard Jeffrey Xavier (189-85, college: Providence, agency: Interperformances) came up with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Zach Monaghan (188-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for Leyma Basquet in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Castello maintains twelfth place with 13-18 record. Leyma Basquet at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 20 games lost. Castello's next round opponent will be higher ranked Carramimbre (#9) in Valladolid and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leyma Basquet will play on the road against Lleida Basquet (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
