Regular Season Round 17: Olimpi - Mgzavrebi 72-84
Date: April 13, 2019
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Tbilisi: Mgzavrebi (#2) and Olimpi (#5). Olimpi was defeated at home 72-84 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Olimpi was ahead by 8 points at the halftime before a 45-25 second half run of Mgzavrebi. They made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Adrian Bowie (189-89, college: Maryland) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. His fellow American import swingman Prince Williams (193-92, college: ECU) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Mgzavrebi players scored in double figures. American forward Mark Ogden (208-94, college: Dixie St.) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Revaz Rogava (192-93) added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Olimpi's coach Dmitri Jakobov rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mgzavrebi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-5 record having just two points less than leader Kutaisi. Olimpi lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Mgzavrebi's next round opponent will be Batumi (#7) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. Olimpi will play against Rustavi and hope to win that game.
