Regular Season Round 27: Chalons-Reims - ASVEL 83-85

A very close game took place in Reims between ASVEL and Chalons-Reims. Fourteenth ranked ASVEL (10-16) got a very close victory on the road over 4th placed Chalons-Reims (18-9). ASVEL managed to escape with a 2-point win 85-83 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. ASVEL made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Chalons-Reims turnovers. Strangely Chalons-Reims outrebounded ASVEL 37-25 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was swingman Junior Ouattara (190-0) who scored 24 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!). Senegalese center Khadim Sow (210-99) chipped in 14 points. At the other side the best for losing team was center Quentin Losser (204-99) who recorded 27 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Louis Cassier (203-97) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Chalons-Reims' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. ASVEL moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Boulazac. Loser Chalons-Reims keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. ASVEL will meet at home higher ranked Nanterre (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalons-Reims will play against Fos-sur-Mer (#18) and hope to secure a win.
