Everything went according to plan when second ranked Piombino (21-7) beat at home 7th ranked LTC Sangiorg. (17-12) 72-58 on Sunday. Francesco Fratto (200-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and swingman Saverio Mazzantini (194-95, agency: Players Group) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Piombino players scored in double figures. Point guard Eugenio Rota (174-99, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and Pietro Bocconcelli (190-98) scored 14 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piombino maintains second place in B with 21-7 record having six points less than leader Deco Caserta. Loser LTC Sangiorg. dropped to the sixth position with 12 games lost. Piombino will face USE Basket (#11) in Empoli in the next round and are hoping to win another game. LTC Sangiorg. will play at home against Rosmini D. (#17) and hope to win that game.
