CIBACOPA top team - Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-4) added another victory to their record. This time they beat sixth ranked Venados (5-7) 111-103. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon made 26-of-28 charity shots (92.9 percent) during the game. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon outrebounded Venados 60-40 including a 41-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St., agency: Best of You Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). The other American import forward Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-94, college: Towson) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 21 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Gaines is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) who recorded 32 points and 4 assists and Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) added 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals respectively. Five Halcones de Ciudad Obregon and four Venados players scored in double figures. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon have an impressive six-game winning streak. Despite that victory Halcones de Ciudad Obregon went down to second position due to points difference, which they share with Culiacan. Venados at the other side dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon's next round opponent will be Ostioneros de Guaymas (#8) on the road where they are favorite. Venados will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
