The game had a very big importance for fifth-ranked Gigantes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Gigantes defeated much higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan on the road 107-97. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caballeros de Culiacan. Strangely Caballeros de Culiacan outrebounded Gigantes 56-39 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Caballeros de Culiacan was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American Obinna Oleka (203-93, college: ASU, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. The former international power forward Arim Solares (202-83) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and Barry Chinedu (-94) added 24 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Caballeros de Culiacan. Five Gigantes and four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will play next round against strong Rayos de Hermosillo trying to get back on the winning streak. Gigantes will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas at home.
