Regular Season Round 9: Mandurah M. - Perth R. 88-89

Date: April 26, 2019
Everything could happen in Mandurah at the game between two tied teams. Both thirteenth ranked Redbacks and their close opponent Magic had identical 2-6 record. But Magic was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Northbridge 89-88 on Friday night. Guard Marshall Nelson (188-94, college: Wayland Baptist) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American-French guard Jourdan DeMuynck (198-90, college: PVAMU) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Redbacks players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Shaun Stewart (183-94, college: Limestone) with 35 points (!!!), 7 assists and 4 steals and forward Travis Durnin (201-98) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Redbacks (3-6) moved-up to twelfth place in League. Loser Magic keeps the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Redbacks will face Slammers (#14) in Bunbury in the next round. Magic will play on the road against the league's second-placed Buccaneers where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
