Regular Season Round 9: NGC Seahawks - Cairns M. 84-73

There was a small surprise in Runaway Bay where leader Seahawks (1-0) won against 6th ranked Cairns Marlins (1-2) 84-73 on Friday. Seahawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American swingman Quinton Campbell (197-93, college: S.Mississippi) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and swingman Tom Howard (200-95) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Campbell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. The best for the losing side was forward Fabijan Krslovic (203-95, college: Montana) with 20 points and 9 rebounds and guard Anthony Fisher (187-94) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cairns Marlins' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Seahawks left bottom position moving up to third place in League. Loser Cairns Marlins dropped to the eighth position with two games lost. Seahawks will face Phoenix (#5) in Cotton Tree in the next round. Cairns Marlins will play at home against South West Metro Pirates and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
