Regular Season Round 9: SD Spartans - Cairns M. 74-87

Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Cairns Marlins (1-2) beat on the road bottom-ranked Brisbane Spartans (0-2) 87-74 on Saturday. Cairns Marlins made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Guard Anthony Fisher (187-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and forward Fabijan Krslovic (203-95, college: Montana) chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Jacob Allen with 16 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Chris Whitehead (175-92, college: Bellarmine) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Brisbane Spartans players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Cairns Marlins went down to eighth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Brisbane Spartans still closes the standings with two games lost. Cairns Marlins will face higher ranked South West Metro Pirates (#6) in Runcorn in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brisbane Spartans will play at home against Gladstone Port City Power (#10) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
