No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Venados (7-8) beat on the road bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-11) 106-99 on Saturday. Venados dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Pioneros Los Mochis' 38 and made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Venados looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 9 assists. American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Venados' coach Eric Weissling used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Anthony Glover-Jr (185-96, college: Indiana, PA) replied with 30 points and his fellow American import forward Devonta Pollard (203-94, college: Houston) added 15 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Pioneros Los Mochis. Five Venados and four Pioneros Los Mochis players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Venados went down to seventh position due to points difference. Pioneros Los Mochis lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. Venados will face higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Gigantes (#6) and hope to win that game.
