Regular Season Round 9: Waverley F. - NW Tasmania 116-121

There was a surprise result in Mount Waverley where ninth ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (3-2) won against higher ranked Waverley Falcons (3-2) 121-116 on Sunday. NW Tasmania Thunder made 32-of-39 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. NW Tasmania Thunder outrebounded Waverley Falcons 53-34 including a 27-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Waverley Falcons were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Lachlan Dent (184-0) stepped up and scored 36 points (!!!) and 8 assists for the winners and swingman Tre Armstrong (193-0) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was naturalized American swingman Bennie Lewis (203-87, college: Benedict) with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Chris Arkell (198-90) scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Waverley Falcons' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. NW Tasmania Thunder moved-up to seventh place in League. NW Tasmania Thunder will face Eltham Wildcats (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Waverley Falcons will play against Geelong Supercats (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
