Second Stage Round 6: Gifu Swoops - Tokyo Cinq R. 90-91

The most exciting game of round 6 in the B League D3 took place in Gifu. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Gifu Swoops (3-7) to third ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (7-5) 91-90 on Sunday evening. Tokyo Cinq R. dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Gifu Swoops' 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Chris Olivier (203-92, college: Oklahoma St.) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Kodai Takahashi (180-91) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Montenegrin-Qatari forward Alen Hadzibegovic (209-99) with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and American Bingo Merriex (206-80, college: TCU) scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gifu Swoops' coach Kazuo Kusumoto rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tokyo Cinq R. have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Gifu Swoops dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Kagoshima and Saitama Bron.. Tokyo Cinq R. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gifu Swoops will play at home against the league's leader Tokyo Excel. (#1) and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
