Very important is a road loss of third ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (10-7) against seventh ranked Venados (9-8) on Friday night. Visiting Caballeros de Culiacan was defeated by Venados in Mazatlan 89-72. Venados players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and American forward Joshua Ramirez (198-94, college: Dominican, CA) accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Venados players scored in double figures. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Islands-American forward Jamaal Samuel (206-93, college: ULM) added 14 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Caballeros de Culiacan in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Venados moved-up to sixth place. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side dropped to the second position with seven games lost. They share it with Obregon and Hermosillo. Venados will play against league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round.
