There was a minor upset when higher ranked Gladstone Port City Power (1-2) was rolled over on the road by fourteenth ranked Brisbane Spartans (1-2) 122-92 on Sunday. Brisbane Spartans outrebounded Gladstone Port City Power 50-39 including 40 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Gladstone Port City Power was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Josh Derksen (206-95, college: Ky Wesleyan) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) for the winners. American point guard Chris Whitehead (175-92, college: Bellarmine) chipped in 31 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard Taylor Young (193-90, college: Warner Pacific) produced a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and Hatold Ridgeway added 24 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Brisbane Spartans left bottom position moving up to ninth place in League. Brisbane Spartans will face Rip (#10) in Sippy Downs in the next round. Gladstone Port City Power will play on the road against Ipswich Force in Booval and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
