A very close game took place in Guadalajara between Tijuana Zonkeys and Gigantes. Third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (11-9) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Gigantes (10-9). Tijuana Zonkeys managed to escape with a 3-point win 111-108 on Tuesday evening. Tijuana Zonkeys outrebounded Gigantes 44-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. Naturalized American guard Karim Scott (196-88) scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Nate Barfield (206-88, college: Langston) chipped in 26 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Jordan Williams (198-92, college: N.Texas) responded with 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists and Nigerian-American Obinna Oleka (203-93, college: ASU) scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. Five Tijuana Zonkeys and four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third position with 11-9 record having just two points less than leader Hermosillo, which they share with Obregon. Newly promoted Gigantes dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet at home bottom-ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Gigantes will play against Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
